Create and Format hard disk partitions or extend partitions in windows 7

 In Windows 7 (same as Windows Vista) we can shrink or extend partitions. The Disk Management tool is already in built with OS, using this tool you can do the job partitioning.The various steps are:-

1. Start
2. Control Panel
3. System & Security







4. Create and format hard disk partitions (Under Administrative Tools)





Now the Disk Management Tool for windows 7 Opened
















5. Right click on the desired volume and select the option “Shrink Volume”.
This will open up the Shrink Volume window and you need to specify the amount of space you want to shrink.

















6. Click on 'Shrink'

In the disk management tool 'Free Space' will be shown.

















7. Right click on the Free Space & select the first option 'New Simple Volume '
Now the new simple volume wizard opened
8. Click 'Next'
9. Enter the Simple volume size > Enter the drive letter >
10. Choose desired options(File system, Quick Format..) > 'Next'
Now the new partition created.

If you want to extend any volume in Windows 7,
Right click on the drive to be extended and select “Extend Volume”,
Specify the amount of space by which you want to extend the volume.

(Please note that extend volume for any drive will work only if there is continuous free space available on your hard disk.)
